How Dare I...
Don’t Give Up Just Yet
By Miriam Weiser
How dare I be the one, I’m just a plain woman
How dare I be the first, but I just may, one day, burst
How can I, who doesn’t really know for sure
How can I, for all of you, open up a door
The only thing we know for certain
The thing that’s not behind the curtain
The only thing we all agree on
The only thing for sure is Hashem
He manages the world and all that’s in it
He makes the moves for all who win it
It’s only He who makes it run
It’s been so ever since the world’s begun
Don’t we know it, don’t we care
Even through all the noises we tend to hear
It’s quite simple, I keep thinking
It’s not people and deeds, it’s evil that’s sinking
How dare I be the one, to spoil all the fun
How dare I be the voice, but is there another choice?
I am a citizen of the world, a child of Hashem
That is precisely who I am.
So stop trying to change the world
Don’t listen to the rhetoric
Keep your eye on the ball
You are not so dumb and small
Make the smart decisions
Despite all the divisions
Take care of yourself and those around you
“Take care of yourself and those around you”
‘They’ don’t care for your welfare, so don’t take the poison jab
‘They’ don’t want to make it better, so don’t believe their gab
‘They’ are the evil ones, so don’t follow them into the grave
‘They’ are spoiling all the fun, so hold strong, be brave
We are citizens of this world, of this country
But our first allegiance is to the One who’s bounty
Is much more generous and much more gracious
Yidden have always been a lot more tenacious
We’re almost there, can you even hear
Don’t let go now, hold steadfast there
The drums are priming, they’re on their way
It’s almost time, for a brand-new wonderful day
